Tower Grove Heights Neighborhood Association Members’ Meeting

November 25, 2008, 7:15 p.m.

 

Mark Froese, President-Elect

Robert Ashton, Board President, was out of town so Mark presided.  Elections for the Association Board were held.  Candidates were:

  • President Elect:             David Bruns
  • Treasurer:                                 Jan Clinite (incumbent)
  • Secretary:                                 Claudia Seifert
  • Membership Secretary: Pauline Ashton (incumbent)

Robert Ashton will become Past President.  John Papa moved that the slate of candidates be elected and Gary Kushinsky seconded the motion.  The election of the candidates was unanimous.

 

Rachel Witt, South Grand Community Improvement District Executive Director

Rachel could not attend but asked that the members be reminded that Dr. Seuss’s Grinch will be at MoKaBe’s Coffee House, 3609 Arsenal Street, for breakfast on Dec. 6, from 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.   Holiday pictures can be taken with the Grinch for $5.  Proceeds from the photo purchases will go directly towards Guardian Angel Settlement/Hosea House (2635 Gravois Ave).

                                               

Ellen Wilson

Ellen Wilson spoke about the Association’s fund raising for the 100 Neediest Cases charity. 

  • Association members are asked to contribute a gift for a specific family member or to donate cash.
  • Volunteers are needed to help distribute flyers. 
  • Dec. 12 is the deadline for giving; there will be a wrapping party for the gifts on Dec. 13. 
  • Checks should be made out to the Tower Grove Heights Neighborhood Association. 

 

Jennifer Florida, Alderman, 15th Ward

  • Neighborhood stabilization grant of $5.5 million to work on turning foreclosed properties into rental properties with strict tenant screening. 
  • Payday loan company ordinance passed to keep them from opening within a mile of an existing store, and within 500 feet of a residence, elementary school or secondary school.
  • Capital Improvement – Capital Committee needs three more members so contact Jennifer if interested.  Issues include traffic calming, lighting, street maintenance and watershed issues in alleys.
  • Stop light cameras are deployed at intersections with a high accident rate and there are none in the 15th Ward.  Jennifer will get more statistics on this topic for a future meeting.
  • Can the stop light at Spring and Arsenal be set to flash after midnight?  Jennifer will submit a request.

 

Jan Clinite, Treasurer

Jan could not attend the meeting but she provided a flyer from the 15th Ward Democrats with information about a Candidates Forum on Jan. 15 at the Carpenter Branch Library.

  • All Democratic candidates running for Mayor, Comptroller and 15th Ward Alderman will be invited. 
  • Filling for office is open from Nov. 24 through Jan. 2.

 

Tom Reitenbach, head of the Block Captains

  • Several blocks do not currently have a representative.  If you are interested in helping with this group, let Tom know.

 

John Papa, Past President

The Association has several items for sale.  Contact John at 865-2545 for purchasing info.

  • TGHNA t-shirts for $10. 
  • Two sets of holiday cards (past winners of neighborhood photo contests).  $10 for a package of 10 cards.

The next meeting will be January 27, 2008 and will include a representative from the Coalition Against Police Crimes and Repression who will discuss local control of the Police Dept.
