Aldermanic President
Jim Shrewsbury
talking about changes in the City's processing of
property code violations |
- The City can't force owners to maintain
their property, but they can fine you for not complying with
property maintenance standards
- Previously, it took 9 months to a year to
get the problem property owners to court; they were only 10%
of the owners but were 90% of the code enforcement problem
- Now the City will use a "parking ticket"
approach; violators will be sent several notices and at each
step along the way, you can just mail in the appropriate
fines when you complete the work.
- This speeds up the whole process,
allowing city officials to do their jobs instead of taking
time out for court appearances. Most violators can
easily pay their fine and move on. More attention can
now be paid to serious violators so they can quickly be
taken to court.
- When the hard cases still refuse to
comply, this will result in the city putting a lien on the
property; this will probably be reserved for violations of a
serious nature or a large dollar amount

Sgt. Brian Hailey for
SLPD, 3rd District |
- Clear license plate covers will be
available soon. Protect both your stickers and your
plates since now people are cutting license plates to get to
the stickers. Fasten your plates with as many bolts as
possible so that you will not be an easy target.
- Police in TGH have a special project
targeting loud car radios from now till the end of the summer
- As part of an effort to cut down on
crime against property, Police will be walking neighborhood
streets, looking in cars, and leaving notices of what they
found in your car which would also make you a target for
criminals. They will be distributing fake "parking tickets"
as friendly reminders that some items in your car are easily
susceptible to theft and that you should remove these items
from the vehicle or just get them out of plain sight.

Dale Sweet for Gravois
Park citizens against the plan for the new McDonald's
restaurant |
- McDonald's is planning to move from its
current location at Chippewa & Grand to a location several
blocks north on land purchased by the City for commercial
development
- This will result in the redevelopment plan for
the area not being fulfilled
-
According to Sweet,
Alderwoman Florida
favors this redevelopment plan to facilitate the overall
redevelopment of the area. It will also put a senior
residential development on the old restaurant site.
- Protests and legal actions by
neighborhood residents have failed to derail the plan
- Residential property owners are already
moving out of the area and away from the new restaurant's
location

NoDrive-Thru.com for more info on their position
